New Moon

The prophets of old heard from God more on New Moon than any other time.  The fast on New Moon is called the “New Moon Fast” because they fasted during the time God’s visitation was the strongest. That should give us a clue when God’s visitation is the strongest for us as well.  It is a recommendation that you make New Moon one of your fast days.

New Moon is a very special time held in great esteem to God’s people. Here are some scripture verses:

Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

God set the stars for signs and seasons, days, and years. God specifically set this accordingly based on his commandment.

The moon phase is 30 days with the beginning of the month being a New Moon. Many important things with God have to do with refreshing and the beginning of a new month is a good example of this

Exo 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

We see here that God set the months from New Moon to New Moon.

Eze 46:1 Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

The gates are only open on those important times set by God.

Eze 46:2 And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without, and shall stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening.
Eze 46:3 Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the sabbaths and in the new moons.

This is where they are to come and worship.

Eze 46:4 And the burnt offering that the prince shall offer unto the LORD in the sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish.
Eze 46:5 And the meat offering shall be an ephah for a ram, and the meat offering for the lambs as he shall be able to give, and an hin of oil to an ephah.
Eze 46:6 And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without blemish.

These times again include Sabbath and New Moon. They are hardly mentioned one without the other and are in conjunction with each other. God placed a great deal of importance upon these days as does the Community as we follow God’s ways.
